I ended up breaking a keyboard key on my laptop and was rather non-plussed to see that full replacement keyboards were $30+.
Two websites, replacementlaptopkeys.com and laptopkey.com, offer individual replacement keys. They're essentially pure margin at $5 / key (excluding shipping), but they do offer step-by-step instructions for how to order the proper key that fits your keyboard and heck it's a lot better than paying the full amount for the full replacement keyboard.
I was a bit leery that there weren't many reviews of the websites, but NYTimes mentioned both of them in a blog post, so that gave a bit of comfort. I ended up ordering from
replacementlaptopkeys.com, due to the slightly cheaper shipping and just received my key.
Shipping took about 5 days from the day of my purchase (shipping from California to Atlanta). The key came in a standard letter envelope, scotch-taped and packed inside of a paper towel, making me suspect this is a side-home business that is maximizing their margins. But hey, the important thing is that I received the key and it is working fine now.
I too have order laptop keys from replacementlaptopkeys.com and yes the paper towel is annoying, but it got here just fine, and being its paper have a low impact on the environment then kudos to them, and much better than what best buy was trying to charge!
ReplyDelete"Horrible customer service. I sent 2 emails regarding tracking, no response, gave plenty of time to respond. Then finally the 3rd day I mentioned something in regards to bad rating and received a response immediately very unprofessional. The company I work for would never allow this. Shipped same day but who cant mail out a letter within minutes. Arrived 3 days later, and received a response on that same day. Anyways item might be incorrect, but not bothering to send back since its not worth it, due to the 3 day response time.

I have had nothing but horrible customer service from this company. The keys do not match, nor do they even fit my laptop despite me giving them the model number for my laptop. This has been the worst customer service I have ever had experience with. I wouldn't recommend them to anyone.
ReplyDeleteYes, I agree about the worthless customer service. I haven't even recieved a confirmation of my order, even though the money has been transferred from my credit card!
ReplyDeleteUpdate: I ordered a few keys and didn't receive anything for a week, the money was drawn but not even an order confirmation on my e-mail! I then spent a week trying to get in contact with the guy, also went to the postal address on the website but he has moved out of his office and am running things from some place else.
DeleteAfter a long wait he then tried to convince me to send one less key than I ordered, and charge me the same price! After threatening with several bad reviews I finally got my keys. Beware, customer service is close to completely worthless.
And, threaten with bad reviews if you get any trouble!
This company is terrible,Although i may of orded the wrong part they left two of the parts out and instead gave me to retainer clips that where the wrong size and different to one another, along with this they haven't Replied to my emails about helping me change my products.
DeleteI would not recommend this company to anyone.
